Doctor Strange (2016)-Critic

If you haven't read part one of this article (summary) nor seen the movie, then I must warn you: Spoilers ahead!

I decided to watch this movie honestly because I love Benedict Cumberbatch as well as all his former projects such as Sherlock Holmes and seeing him in a role out of his comfort zone is amazing. I'm a huge superhero geek but to be honest I also wanted to go in a completely different direction from my past projects that were more "girly". Let's get started!

First of let's talk about the visuals, in the Marvel franchise CGI is very common but in this instance, it was absolutely critical to the movie since so many magic is involved. I think the effects it created and the images that they made were breath-taking and creative. The movie probably had a great team who put many hours into making it perfect.

The story was of course not invented in 2016 but it wasn't one known by many. I think it's a great story and an original one that changes from the classic orphan with a gift. I think you might've guessed it by now, but I think that Benedict Cumberbatch did a great job, I think he really added depth to the Marvel character. It really was a big casting with well-known actors so I guess you could say they played it safe, it wouldn't have hurt to see a fresh face or two. I have to applaud the talent the actors have, they use spells and create magic with their hands in the movie but as we all know, in real life that doesn't happen. They're essentially waving their hands in the air imagining that something is there which is harder then it might look.

I wish we could've seen more backstory for other characters, I wish there was more information. I want more! It's understandable that as the character's first movie, he's the main focus but I want to know more about Rachel McAdams, the Backstory of the Ancient one and what turned Kaecilius into a dark sorcerer? So many unanswered questions!

Of course, this happens in every single one of my critics but I think it's important to have a diverse cast. This movie was diver-ish. It was mostly white actors but there was a couple of people of color which, to be honest lacks in most superhero movies. Think of the Avengers and the X-Men is a big majority of white man which is not great, it's just now starting to change with Black Panther, Aquaman, and the Justice League.

I wish there was more to say but honestly, it was a great movie...
